We get one more adventure before we move home...our "stop over" in London for 5 days...but as far as Germany goes, we've only got 3 days left. Aahh!
One of our favorite cities over 6 years ago, was Salzburg. We definitely wanted to go back for another visit and we just barely fit it in! We had a comfy little cabin on the 2 hour train ride there...
And though it was cold, we couldn't have asked for better October weather. The sun was gorgeous! (Recognize that statue in the back, Sound of Music fans? Its in the Mirabell Gardens...)Dwarf statue park...Micah had some other cute pictures on facebook of the girls with these statues!
Kate and Val both like practicing with the camera...here is Val's best shot :)
Mozart fans...here's the house he was born in. Now turned museum, of course :)
Salzburg has several beautiful churches. We were in awe of this gorgeous white one. And to give you an idea of the scale of things, scroll down and you can see just how small Micah and the girls look compared to some of the side alter pieces!
Everything is a game with the kids around...Kate takes off running and skipping over the checkerboard floor, while Elsie wants a "monkey ride" on daddy's leg! Every now and then we get "the look" from other (quieter) tourists. :) Ha!
Another awesome feature of the city, is the fortress at the top of the hill! (Picture of it down below). We were so proud of the girls for hiking up the steep hill, but the views from the fortress were worth it!
(Looking south)
(Looking north, towards the Old Town. I just love all of the the steeples!)
Quick snack at a monument with a lovely view.
This was our "snack" - a croissant type bread, shaped in a pretzel and covered in (what else?) chocolate! DELICIOUS!
Here Val is in deep contemplation over the statue of Mozart...
Such a beautiful city!
The big girls were rockstars on the way home. We didn't have a posh little cabin this time, so the girls improvised, used some imagination and made one of the other passangers laugh about their antics. They decorated the train with pretend balloons and had a whole birthday party - complete with song and everything. Too bad for that lady in the background who was trying to sleep! :)
