Prien am Chiemsee (but mostly Chiemsee)

Sunny Sunday Adventure!  Surprise!  Summer came to Bavaria for the weekend!  Hurray! :)
So what did we do?  Took NO LESS than SEVEN, yes, that's right 7 modes of transportation last Sunday.  Talk about adventure.  You like the tram and train girls?  Well, this adventure, put their excitement OVER the top!
Here's what we did, in highlighting the transportation modes:
1. Left our apartment complex, taking the tram several stops, where we
2. transferred to the city bus, which dropped us right in front of
3. Ostbahnhof station, where we switched to the DeustchBahn train to Prien am Chiemsee (Prien is the town, Chiemsee is the lake).
4. We walked towards the lake, where the girls played on the playground and ate a snack (soft pretzels, what else?!) and we waited for our boat to take us to an island called Herreninsel.
5.  Once there, we walked around an old monastery for a while, found a rope swing to play on and an old church to pray in, then road in a horse-drawn-carriage up to an amazing castle built  by the crazy king Ludwig II (same one who built Neuschwanstein, the "Disney" castle).
6. On our return trip, instead of WALKING from the lake back uphill to the train station, we road the oldest steam railway in the world, the steam train Chiemsee Bahn.
7. Once at the station in Prien, we found the train wasn't running for part of the journey back to Munich, so we took a coach (big bus) through the countryside to an connecting town called Rosenhiem, where we switched back to the DeustchBahn train, reversing our original journey (bus, to tram and finally home).
And here, dear friends, are some photos of that amazing, long but fun, and definitely memorable adventurous day out:

On the boat:

At the monastery:

St. Mary's, built in the 1400's:

Valerie's highlight...she was OVERJOYED at this opportunity!

View of the castle as we entered on the carriage...

Meet Duncan (Doo-cahn) and Friedaloid... this was their last journey for the day.  They were tired horses!
Several amazing fountains out front...

With an incredible checkerboard patio out back.  It just BEGGED for us to play tag on it.  So we obliged :)

Waiting for our boat, we needed to cool down a bit!

Return boat journey...

Oldest steam train in the world!
(Someone is a bit tired from a full day!  And just think, we still had the coach, train, bus and tram return journey to complete!)

Phew!  I'm tired all over again from re-living that day, but it was so much fun!!  And we didn't even end up buying the girls ice cream because we'd had such fun doing so many other things.  But don't feel too bad for these girls.  I'm sure our next adventure will include some sort of cool treat. :)
