Scotland's National Emblem: The Thistle1. Its population is over 460,000, but swells to over 1 million during its famous arts festivals in August! (Thank goodness we were there in July!!)
2. The world's biggest New Year street party happens here every year. It's called Edingurgh's Hogmanay.
3. JK Rowling, Harry Potter author, wrote here first novel (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) in a cafe in Edinbrgh!
4. The first statue of Abraham Lincoln outside of the USA was put up in Edinburgh!!
5. Excitingly famous people who were born or grew up in Edinburgh: Sir Arhtur conan Doyle, createor of Sherlock Holms; Alexander Graham Bell, and Sean Connery!
